Easy Home Remedies from Giada de Laurentiis
Our Natural Health cover girl, celeb chef Giada de Laurentiis, is one busy lady. Juggling a full plate as a Food Network star, new-to-the-scene Las Vegas restaurateur and hands-on mom to her 6-year-old daughter, Jade, she knows more than most that the holidays can sometimes be, er, a little less than calm and bright. Here, Giada dishes up a few of her fave DIY home remedies that keep her happy, healthy and looking naturally beautiful all through the seasonal craze.
Try a DIY exfoliant. “Whip up a natural exfoliator to remove dirt and freshen skin. I add a little water to a bit of baking soda, and lightly scrub my face with the mixture. It’s great if I’m wearing a lot of makeup or I’ve been working in the kitchen—it cleans out my pores.”
Soothe chapped hands. “Dab olive oil straight from the bottle on winter-roughened hands to moisturize and soften. I obviously cook a lot and have my hands in water often, so I use it on my cuticles. I also put it on the ends of my hair since I get a lot of flat iron- and curling iron-treatments.”
Stop sniffles before they start. “To keep colds and the flu at bay, I use a saline spray, morning and night, in my nose. You can buy it at the grocery store, and it keeps your nose totally hydrated.” Saline spray helps flush out bacteria and moisture combats stuffiness and infection. Plus, your odds of getting sick are increased when nasal passages are dry.
Pop a multi. “Vitamin C is key. It helps your skin and it boosts your immune system.”
Recharge in nature. “When you’re feeling frazzled, step outside for a few and get a breath of fresh air. Being outdoors is soothing in so many ways. It’s great for the mind-body connection.”
