UPDATE: Rachelle Friedman, Paralyzed at Her Bachelorette Party, Is Becoming a Mother

After suffering a spinal cord injury, Friedman and her husband are able to start a family with the help of a surrogate.

We couldn't be happier to hear this news: Rachelle Friedman—the amazing young woman who is living with a spinal cord injury—is going to be a mother, reports People.

Friedman, 28, was paralyzed on May 23, 2010—during her bachelorette party, when one of her bridesmaids playfully pushed her into a pool. She went in head first, and in that instant, her life was changed forever.

When Friedman wrote a piece for us a few months ago, she said that she hoped to start a family soon. Although paralysis doesn't affect her ability to get pregnant, her medications would be harmful for a developing baby, so she and her husband started raising funds for surrogacy.

But get this: When one of the couple's college friends, Laurel Humes, read about Friedman's need for a surrogate, she immediately volunteered for the role—even though she hadn't seen her friend in years. Now, the ball is already rolling: The doctors harvested Friedman's eggs in June, and the embryo transfer is slated for August. How awesome—and inspiring—is that?
