Apparently, America is suffering from a serious sex drought: 22 percent of American women aren’t having sex with their spouses, according to a new survey conducted by AshleyMadison.com.
They surveyed over 74,000 people from 26 countries and unfortunately, American women were the least likely to be getting laid. But since AshleyMadison.com is a website for people seeking extramarital affairs, these findings are obviously a little skewed. The lack of sex could be due to the fact that they're busy getting busy with someone who isn't their husband, or their sexless marriage could be the reason they went on AshleyMadison in the first place.

But even though these responses should be taken with a grain of salt, we can't disregard the statistic entirely. One recent survey found that 32 percent of moms go a few years without sex, and 21.7 percent of married women in their thirties only have sex between once a month and a few times a year, according to The Kinsey Institute's 2010 National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior.

Clearly dry spells happen, but there are still better options to consider before seeking an affair. "If you find yourself in a sexless marriage, see if you can determine at what point you or your partner started to shut down," says marriage and sex therapist Jane Greer, Ph.D., author of What About Me? Stop Selfishness from Ruining Your Relationship. "Was it after one too many rejections or one too many disappointments in bed? Then approach your partner. In a positive way, express that you want to get back into a sexual rhythm and reconnect sexually. Both people have to be aware of the problem in order to make progress."
