This Guy Spent 18 MONTHS Making a Wedding Ring for His Fiancée

This Guy Spent 18 MONTHS Making a Wedding Ring for His Fiancée

Is this cute or completely crazy?

Both women and men like to be wooed with romantic gestures—whether it's in a big way (think Kanye’s proposal to Kim) or a small way (think filling up your fridge with your partner's favorite wine) But one Scottish man went way above and beyond, spending 18 months panning for gold to make matching wedding bands for him and his fiancée.

With a variety of wedding rings so readily available, one might question why he would spend a year and a half to forge for gold in the Scottish mountains? His answer: “It was a labor of love," John Greenwood (the ambitious groom) told The Scotsman. "It was an amazing feeling to put the ring on her finger. I was really overwhelmed."

Turns out, this isn't the first time he decided to go the DIY route—he actually surprised her with an engagement ring also made from gold he panned himself. “Some days, I’d be camping next to the river and I’d start as soon as the sun was up and carry on for 14 or 15 hours a day," he said. "The result is a totally unique engagement ring with such a wonderful and personal story."

His wife was very proud of her hubby, and told Metro UK, "the ring is very unique and very special." But it's hard to say if every woman would have felt the same about this extreme gesture. Sure, it's super romantic and makes for a great story, but on the other hand, that's even longer than most women spend picking out their dress. And how horrible would you feel if your partner spent THAT LONG creating you a ring and you didn't absolutely love it?

So, how would you feel about this golden gesture? Romantic or ridiculous? Tell us in the comments below.
