How to Recreate Jessica Simpson's Wedding Hair and Makeup

How to Recreate Jessica Simpson's Wedding Hair and Makeup

Because you don't have to be a bride to rock this gorgeous and romantic look

Over-lined lips…ultra-bright blush…dark smoky eyes…tight updos. So many brides lose sight of what they're supposed to look like on their wedding day: the very best version of themselves! But People just revealed the first official photo of Jessica Simpson from her nuptials this past weekend (check out the exlusive picture), and we're happy to say that she didn't fall for any of the aforementioned bridal beauty traps. Instead, she nailed it with her ethereal palette of plum, orchid, and pink makeup that perfectly played up her chocolate brown eyes and pouty lips (although it's worth noting that these shades would look gorgeous on pretty much every human.).

Not betrothed and love these shades? Because it doesn't scream "bridal beauty," Jessica's look works any time, anywhere. Here's a cheat sheet for products you need to copy it (because you know you wanna):

  1. Perfect your complexion with a glow-boosting, skin tone-evening CC Cream like Physicians Formula Super CC Color-Correction + Care CC Cream SPF 30 ($14.95, at drugstores). Apply a light dusting of mauve blush to cheekbones (try Clinique Fresh Bloom Allover Color in Plum Poppy Blend, $29.50, clinique.com), blending up toward your temples, then top it with a creamy champagne-colored highlighter. I'm obsessed with Jouer Cosmetics Highlighter in Champagne ($20, jouercosmetics.com).
  2. Dust a medium-toned purple eye shadow across your eyelids from inner to outer corners. Then blend a deeper plum shade into your creases, concentrating a bit more toward your outer corners and smudging it below your entire lower lash line. A palette like Cover Girl Eye Enhancers 3-Kit Shadows in Dance Party ($4.25, at drugstores), has both shades.
  3. Lightly line your upper and lower lash lines with a deep charcoal or soft black pencil, smudging it with your (clean!) fingers or an eye liner brush afterward. Try Maybelline Line Express Eyeliner in Soft Black ($5.95, at drugstores). Finish with a waterproof lash-boosting mascara. Try L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Waterproof Mascara ($9, at drugstores).
  4. Slick on a petal pink, your-lips-but-better lip gloss, like Fresh Sugar Shine Lip Treatment in Rosé ($18.50, at Sephora), which is non-sticky and leaves lips super soft.

When you've got long, shiny, blonde hair as gorgeous as Jessica's, it would be a shame to pull it all back. Rather than opt for a tight chignon, she left her hair half loose, pulling back the front and sides into a half-up, half-down style that put her face on display. And because I'm all about easy beauty, I love any formal hairstyle that doesn't require dipping into sleep (or party) time to remove a thousand bobby pins. Win-win.
