5 Times It's OK to Procrastinate

5 Times It's OK to Procrastinate

We've totally got your back on these.

We constantly give ourselves a hard time for procrastinating—for waiting an extra day to buy groceries, for washing our bras a few days later than we probably should have. But sometimes postponing is a good thing. Don't believe us? Just check out these five times you should feel free to take a rain check:

Before Getting Out of Bed on a Saturday Morning
We'd like to point out a few things. Number one: You worked hard this past week. So hard. Number two: You are tired and worn out, and lying in bed is restorative for both your health and sanity. Number three: We promise the world will keep turning if you start checking things off your to-do list an hour later than you anticipated. You deserve this.

Before Splurging on That Amazing-Looking, Not Amazingly Priced Dress
You've spent the past 20 minutes staring at yourself in the dressing room mirror—and you still look fantastic. Your friend is telling you to buy the silly dress already, and the salesperson is getting a bit snippy. (You get it: There are other people in line for the dressing rooms.) Step one: Change back into your regular clothes. Step two: Go ahead and wait this one out if you feel like it—it's prudent, not indecisive.

Before Getting Married
So your friends are all putting a ring on it, your relatives are asking when your time will come, and your parents are begging for grandchildren? Not to sound harsh, but that's their problem. Marriage is a big step worthy of some serious thought, and only you know when you're ready to take that step. You do you.

Before Sending in a Job Application (But There's a Caveat Here)
No, you don't want to wait so long to apply for the gig that someone else has already been hired. But waiting a night—and letting yourself read over your résumé and cover letter with fresh eyes in the morning—is just smart. No one wants a typo on a résumé!

Before Doing Your Laundry
Because the worst thing that will likely happen here is that you will wear a bikini bottom for underwear one day this week. And if that is the suckiest thing that happens to you all week, that's actually pretty amazing. So let's stop worrying about being procrastinators so much—it's one thing if you have to complete a serious task, but just like the laundry, many things are fine to wait a day or two to do!
