Still, it bears repeating: Adrian Peterson is freaking ridiculous.
Last season, coming off devastating ACL and MCL tears, the Minnesota Viking defied all expectations by emerging from injury faster and stronger than ever—and this was the guy who already smashed practically every record for young running backs before getting hurt. But Peterson’s 2012 MVP campaign was one for the ages: He tallied an astonishing 2,097 rushing yards—just nine away from breaking Eric Dickerson’s all-time mark in a single season.
So how can he possibly follow that up in 2013? By setting his sights on a new number: 2,500 yards. It’s a feat that’s never been accomplished before, but if there’s any athlete on the planet who can pull it off, it’s probably Peterson.
And here’s the surprising activity that just may help him get there: paintball.
On the brand-new episode of the Men’s Health Podcast, Peterson credits his insane achievements to the hulking offensive linemen in Minnesota who block for him every week. “Just being able to communicate with those guys builds team chemistry,” he says, which in turn has led to huge success on the field. And how did the Vikings create camaraderie over the summer? By blasting each other with balls of paint in between pigskin practices.
Listen to this week’s podcast to hear all about the team’s epic paintball tournament—including how Peterson and his teammates welcomed their rookies—and discover more of the star’s success secrets as he prepares to kick off this NFL season.
