Dementia’s an old guy’s disease—right? Not exactly. While the syndrome normally hits in your late 60s, at least 200,000 Americans under the age of 65 suffer from something called young-onset dementia.

The good news: Swedish researchers recently pinpointed the nine risk factors responsible for about 68 percent of cases. Below are the ways your behavior, anatomy, and health could put you at risk for the disease. And while some things (like your height) are out of your control, the recipe for protecting your brain is simpler than you think.
