Even if you've never heard of Lulu, the controversial dating app that allows women to anonymously review guys they know, you might be interested in the fact that the company is announcing the top-ranked dudes in each state.
Last week, the company teamed up with Business Insider to show the guys who are dominating Lulu—and they also shared the descriptive hashtags most often used to describe each man, like: #opensdoors, #dimples, #alwayspays, #snugglemachine, and #notadick. Clearly, all good qualities.
To find out how it feels to be named the number one guy to date in the entire state, we got in touch with California's leading Lulu man: Vidal Woods, 22, who has a 9.4 rating (out of 10). Here's what he had to say about being ranked by ladies, how he found out he was number one, and the effect it's had on his dating life so far.

WH: Did you know you were one of the top-rated guys in California before Lulu released this info?
Woods: I had no idea. I got a random e-mail from a Lulu representative about a week ago saying that I had a pretty high rating on the app. The rep asked if I would be okay with the front page of my Lulu profile being used for a news story. I thought, "Why not?" Today, I saw the Business Insider article with my face on the entire state of California, and I'm just like, "What is going on?"
How do you feel about your top hashtag being #AlwaysPays?
I definitely appreciate it. That's how I was raised, so I don't see it as anything out of the ordinary. I guess it can be both positive and negative. I'm happy to pay, but I'm not made of money. Hopefully I won't be expected to dish out tons of cash on every date from now on. I'll just have to give disclaimers when I go out on dates.
Will you be going on any dates in the near future as a result of your new title as the number one guy on Lulu in California?
I am curious to see where things go. To be honest, I've had a lot of random friend requests and messages on Facebook throughout the day. It's flattering, of course, but I'm still just laughing at the whole situation. Ryan Seacrest mentioned on his show that I salsa dance, and some of the messages I received were from girls telling me how they want to learn how to salsa dance. It's really funny because I was literally just sitting in my room working on a research paper when a bunch of my friends started messaging me about being on the radio [that's when he first realized he was named the top California guy on Lulu]. It’s so random.
How long have you been on Lulu?
I joined Lulu back in early 2013 after I heard my female friends in college talking about this app that girls could use to rate guys. It sounded interesting, so I joined as a fun way to see how girls would rate me.
What has your experience been like so far?
When I first got Lulu, I would check it frequently. I noticed that my profile got lots of daily views from women. I thought, "Oh, hey, that's pretty cool." But girls never approached me or showed interest in dating me through Lulu. Honestly, I didn't even think Lulu was relevant anymore. But after I heard Ryan Seacrest talking about the highest-rated guys on Lulu on his radio show this morning, I've been getting tons of friend requests and messages from girls I don't know.
My guy friends have also been getting a kick out of the whole thing and have been messaging me all morning. They're calling me "a legend" and joking that they want to date me.
Does it ever feel weird to read what girls think of you on Lulu?
Not really. Guys talk amongst their friends about who they've dated in the past, and girls talk to their friends about the same thing. I guess Lulu just makes it public. But it's still just an app, and you can't really know what it's like to date someone based on that. Basically, I don't really worry too much about it.
