If you’ve been waiting with baited breath for more juicy details about the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie, prepare to finally be satisfied. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Christian Grey himself (or, you know, Jamie Dornan), revealed a few new details about the hotly anticipated film.
But first, let's get some bad news out of the way: Sadly, Jamie says there will be no full-frontal nudity on his end. "There were contracts in place that said that viewers wouldn't be seeing my, um … Yeah, my todger," said the actor (FYI: that's a British slang term for penis).
Although his lack of full-frontal nudity is definitely a bummer, these other interesting tidbits are more than enough to keep you psyched for the upcoming movie:
1. He REALLY Researched for the Role
Jamie totally immersed himself in the role of millionaire mogul Christian Grey by getting in touch with some real-world kink. He visited a BDSM dungeon in Vancouver and saw “a perfectly sweet and normal woman” who was being spanked, he told The Guardian. “There may well be a repressed side to some women who long for that kind of thrill in their everyday life,” he suggested.
2. He Didn't Read the Book Before Getting the Part
Neither Jamie nor his wife, Amelia Warner, had indulged in E.L. James’ bestseller before he accepted the role. Hey, maybe he wanted to be surprised?
3. The Film May Not Be as Graphic As You Think
He explained that the film adaptation won't rely on shock-value to get the point across. “You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible without grossing them out,” he said. “You don’t want to make something gratuitous, and ugly, and graphic." Well, that's slightly disappointing…
4. Filming Those Sex Scenes Was Anything But Sexy
Given what filming a Hollywood sex scene is really like, it makes sense that Jamie wasn’t so turned on when he was getting down with co-star Dakota Johnson. “Anyone who thinks actors get turned on doing sex scenes in films is mistaken. There are dozens of hairy men standing around, moving cables and lighting equipment,” he said. “That’s not sexy unless you’re into being watched, which I’m not."
5. His Wife is Supportive of the Kinky Role
Amelia used to be an actor herself, so she's familiar with the whole making-out-with-another-person-on-camera thing. “She understands that it is work,” he revealed. “I don’t think we will be watching it together too many times at home, though.”
6. He's More Worried About How His Friends Will Take It
Even though his wife doesn’t mind his involvement in the film, Jamie admitted he was a little worried about the teasing he’d get from his long-time friends. “We’re all quite harsh with each other, in a lovely, known-each-other-all-our-lives way,” he said.
7. He Sees the Sexual Dynamic as Completely Consensual
Jamie describes himself as a feminist (!), and doesn't believe the subject matter will glorify sexual violence against women. “I think it’s very hard to argue that when it is all consensual," he said. "Half the book is about making contracts. Permission and agreement that this be done. There’s no rape, no forced sexual situations."
