Gym etiquette: It's an underrated art. But if everyone followed along, the gym would be such a happier place. Just imagine: no sweaty pits in your face or search-and-rescue missions for an MIA dumbbell. Sounds pretty sweet, huh? So let's just all agree to these 14 rules of the gym floor right now.
1. Don't Make Sex Noises
A little grunt is understandable, but a full-out moan? We don't know if we should congratulate you for the lift or the apparent orgasm.
2. Don't Wear Heavy Perfume
Okay, let's make that any perfume. But please, oh, please: Do wear deodorant.
3. Use One Piece of Equipment at a Time
Hoarding is for reality TV.
4. Offer to Spot Others
Because no one's workout should suffer because her fitness buddy is a no-show.
5. Never Steal Someone's Cardio Machine
Come on, don't tell us that you didn't see her waiting!
6. Always Re-Rack Your Dumbbells
Gym time is not meant to be a scavenger hunt.
7. Don't Hover
If you want to use the weights next, just ask. Personal space, guys!
8. Never Talk on Your Phone
We know you saw the sign telling you to put your phone away. Texting is annoying, but chatting is the absolute worst.
9. Set Your Weights Down Gently
If you're strong enough to lift the dumbbells, you're strong enough not to drop them.
10. Cover Your Private Parts
It doesn't matter if you're in the locker room or in downdog—we don't want to see that!
11. Don't Hold Up the Drinking Fountain Line
If you've got a ginormous bottle to fill, okay. Way to hydrate. Just let others fill up first!
12. Don't String Your Belongings Across the Entire Gym
Whatever you bring to the gym floor—water bottle, towel, what have you—should stay in one tidy little spot and not take up a person's worth of mat space.
13. Clean Up After Yourself
This means removing all weight plates from the squat rack, wiping down cardio machines, and never leaving a puddle of sweat behind.
