Even if you don’t normally tear up at weddings, this outdoor ceremony that took place in Iowa two weeks ago might just turn you into a puddle: Six years ago, Gina Giaffoglione was paralyzed from the belly button down after a car accident involving a drunk driver. Doctors told Gina, now 27, that she’d never walk again. But when her then-boyfriend (who met and fell in love with Gina after her accident) popped the question more than a year ago, she was determined to prove them wrong—telling her fiancé and father that she planned on walking down the aisle.
It took months of grueling physical therapy, first to strengthen her body so she could stand up, and then learn to “walk” with legs she can’t feel. With the help of a brace underneath her wedding dress and her dad’s physical support, she shocked wedding guests by walking all the way to her fiancé, where they stood face to face for the first time to recite their vows and then kiss. “This walk down the aisle might not be what I always envisioned it would be, but we’re having a walk down the aisle…it’s a blessing.” Watch the full report (and Gina's steps down the aisle) from KETV NewsWatch 7 in Omaha, Nebraska:
