The Sexy Reason You SHOULD Dress Up This Halloween

The Sexy Reason You SHOULD Dress Up This Halloween

Get out the cat ears.

Thinking about skipping the Halloween costume this year? There's a very good reason not to—and your sex life will thank you for it.

A recent poll of about 1,000 Match.com users shows that that when people wear a costume, 60 percent of them feel it lowers their inhibitions and boosts their self-confidence.

"Self-confidence is sexy," says biological anthropologist Helen Fisher, Ph.D., Match.com's chief scientific advisor. "If costumes make you feel more confident, you're going to be sexier."

Plus, Halloween is already a night where seemingly anything goes—from eating sugar to wearing way less clothes than you normally would. The whole point is to be a little wilder than usual, lower your inhibitions, and have fun, which are all crucial factors for boosting your libido.

"People like to play," says Fisher. "And if you give them an opportunity to play, it's amazing how they'll rise to the occasion." Translation: Halloween is really good for your sex life.

So if you're not already headed to a Halloween party this weekend—find one! Or just grab a friend, whip up an impromptu costume (here are four simple, adorable costumes you can totally do), and head to a restaurant or bar to mingle. You'll be surprised at the surge of confidence that random outfit will give you.

To really maximize this ego-boosting effect, think about the kind of persona that would make you feel the most attractive and flirty, then design your outfit around that. "Dress in ways that really enhance you," says Fisher. "Really go all out! Why not be outrageously sexy, or outrageously intellectual, or whatever you want?"

If you're already coupled up, this advice goes for you, too. Dressing up with your partner (whether you're going out or staying in) is a really easy way to spice things up. And if you're shy about it, Halloween is the perfect excuse to try role play for the first time. "Novelty drives up the dopamine system in the brain," says Fisher. And that dopamine can cause intense feelings: "If you've been living with someone for a few years and suddenly you see them all dressed up in something completely new, something really sexy or really cool, you'll feel that rush for them again."

Which brings us to our final point: Take advantage of this weekend's anything-goes holiday, and go all out, for sure, but your dress-up activities don't have to stop there. You can throw a theme party any time of the year or slip into sexy roles with your partner pretty much any night you want, says Fisher. So, you know, don't toss that cat suit out on November 1…
