Meditation can feel like this out-of-reach, overly complicated thing that you could never master, but we promise that's not the case. Once you start your own practice—whether that's with a guided recording, a Transcendental Meditation teacher, or any other number of ways—you'll find it's way easier than you originally thought, and it's completely blissful. Here's the nudge you need to go ahead and get started—and reap the crazy health perks that come with regularly getting your zen on.
This Friday, Deepak Chopra, M.D. will be joined by life coach and bestselling author Gabrielle Bernstein and singer-songwriter India Arie, in an attempt to set a world record for the largest group meditation in history. "Our intention behind hosting the world’s largest meditation is to use the power of the group to exponentially magnify the benefits [of the practice] for each individual, and to explore the collective benefit that emerges when people from all around the world come together in meditation with the single intention of peace," said Chopra in a recent press release.

You probably know by now that meditating is seriously good for body, mind, and soul. (Just check out these six benefits of transcendental meditation.) So if you're looking for a reason to start—or you want to expand your practice—why not join 15,000 people in the largest group meditation this Friday? Yes, 15,000—that's the number they're aiming for in order to take the world record.

While Chopra, Bernstein, and Arie will be leading the live group in Toronto, you can participate virtually via the live stream. Visit Chopra.com and register now. Then you can log on by noon on Friday to make sure your om counts towards their goal. Once you've logged in, set your laptop up in a calming, distraction-free place and allow yourself to relax.
Don't worry if you have literally zero experience with meditation. At the beginning of the event, Chopra and Bernstein will give instruction on how to meditate, so it's perfect for beginners as well as advanced meditators. They'll even provide a peace mantra (like "Om Shanti") for participants to repeat silently to themselves for the duration of the seven-minute world meditation.
So go ahead, make history with the world’s largest group mediation ever this Friday—we'll be participating, too. Then, keep up the momentum and try to work meditation into your daily life. Better yet, gather a group of friends to generate even more of that peaceful energy!
