Last week, we shared what happened when Buzzfeed asked its staffers why they take birth control. (Spoiler: It was awesome.) Last night, Lena Dunham decided to chime in with an equally awesome answer. Check out the tweet she sent below about why she needs birth control:
I need birth control because I have endometriosis and it helps manage pain. Why do you?

First of all, props to Lena for using her fame to start a discussion about a seriously important issue. Not to mention, we love that she was open about her endometriosis, a painful disease where tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus grows outside of the uterus. The condition is characterized by chronic pelvic pain and severe menstrual cramps, and birth control is often the first line of defense when it comes to alleviating these symptoms.
Obviously, there are a million other reasons people rely on birth control, as Lena’s followers quickly chimed in:
@lenadunham Because I'm not financially prepared for another pregnancy/child.

@lenadunham for such bad PMS that I physically couldn't move, had migraines for a week straight, and for my skin!
