Summer seems like prime relaxation time, but the warmer weather can actually spike your stress levels, according to a new survey from SleepRate.
They found that 40 percent of Americans find themselves more stressed in summer months than they are the rest of the year. Weird, right? With sunny days and margaritas on deck, what could we be so stressed about? Well, a lot, apparently:
We're Sleeping Less
A third of those surveyed say they spend less quality time with their beds in the summer. A big reason is the heat itself: 88 percent of people prefer to sleep in cooler temperatures, so it can be hard to get fully comfortable at night. Sufficient rest is important for reasons beyond stress reduction, so try these snacks that will help you get some shut-eye.
We're Busier
What with all the picnics, beach trips, and cookouts to attend, it's no surprise 48 percent of people say their schedules—both work and personal—are full in summer months, with most people clocking as many as three events per week. If you're feeling swamped, check out these brilliant time-management tips to keep things going as smoothly as possible—so you can sleep as soundly as possible.
We're Planning Vacations
Getting a trip together is ridiculously hectic, no matter how organized you are. Even though the point of vacation is to take a break from regular life, 35 percent of people cite it as a key factor in their increased summer stress. In order to ward off more potential vacation worries, try these tactics to plan an amazing getaway without stressing about the cost.
