Nicole Scherzinger Opens Up About Her Struggle with Bulimia

Nicole Scherzinger Opens Up About Her Struggle with Bulimia

How the singer finally decided to get help—and how you can get it, too, for yourself or a loved one

Nicole Scherzinger revealed that she struggled with bulimia in the past, and now the singer is sharing more about the eating disorder she suffered from for eight years.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan U.K., Nicole explains that her eating disorder hit a very scary climax before she reached out for help: "I had started losing my voice, I couldn't sing at shows, and then I remember my manager finding me passed out on the floor in Malta or in the south of France," the August 2014 cover star told the publication. "I thought, 'I'm going to lose everything I love if I don't love myself.'"

Fortunately, it sounds like Nicole is much healthier and happier now, and she's letting others know that they, too, can come out on top of an eating disorder. "It is such a horrible, paralyzing disease, and it was such a dark time for me," she said in the interview. "It robs you of living your life. But you can recover, and you can get rid of it forever. I did it, and that's why it's so important for me to share my story. I felt so alone...but I made myself so alone. You hide it from the world, you isolate yourself. But you can beat it—do not give up because you're so special and you're meant for such great things."

Eating disorders and disordered eating are increasingly common. Learn the signs and find out how to get help for you or someone you care about.
