13 Things You Should Never Say to Someone Training for a Race

13 Things You Should Never Say to Someone Training for a Race

Because races are hard, training is harder, and we need your support!

Signing up for a race is a big commitment, and something to be proud of. And training? That takes hard work, dedication, and reinforcement. So the last thing you need are people on the sidelines questioning why you'd do it. Pretty please, avoid saying these things to somebody training for a race, and instead focus on being the best cheerleader ever.

"You're waking up at 5 a.m. just to go running?!" You like coffee; I like a.m. workouts.

"Do you have a training plan?" Of course I do, and I follow it religiously.

"Isn't your race coming up?" I've only been counting down the days for the past six months. Thanks for the reminder, though.

"I can't believe you're running a race!" Um: Why's that?

"Do you miss your social life?" Hello, running buddies make the best friends.

"Why waste your time with all that training?" You're right: What was I thinking making goals and sticking to them?

"Don't you get bored running all the time?" There's way more to training than just running in circles, OK?

"OMG, you're crazy!" Crazy what? Fit? Dedicated?

"Are you ready?" I mean, that's what training is for?

"Relax, it's just a race!" Sure it's not the Olympics, but you better believe I'm going to PR.

"Just come to boozy brunch with us! You can do your workout later!" Never a good idea.

"Isn't that, like, really hard?" Nope. Running [insert mileage here] is basically a walk in the park.

"I would never do that!" Then good thing I'm the one doing it.
