Check your calendar. Chances are your summer is booked solid with weekend weddings, family vacations, and maybe a joy trip or two—all cutting gaping, potentially waist-wrecking holes in your diet.
But a new story from Refinery29's The Anti-Diet Project suggests that your vacation "splurges" might not be so bad after all. In fact, it might even be easier to stay healthy on vacay. Whaaaaa?
The article has a good point: "When we eat at home, our food is based on routine: morning bagel, salad lunch, 4 p.m. chocolate break, and all that. Listening to your internal hunger and fullness signals (not to mention taste preferences) is a lot harder when you're trying to hear over that voice in your head that says, 'But you always have a bagel on Monday.' When you're traveling, the routine is broken. You're out of your element, forced to actually consider what you want, and then go look at what your options are." In other words, you're automatically eating more mindfully on vacation. So in theory at least, you'll be savoring each bite more fully—and hopefully noticing when you're full more easily than you might at home.
Plus—and your feet can also attest to this—you walk a ton on vacation! So really, when you get down to it, the way you're living while traveling is often really healthy (even if you treat yourself to local specialties).
And isn't vacation about not stressing anyway? Read the full post on Refinery29.
