Every week, Your New Favorite Playlist introduces you to workout-worthy tunes from a different fitness brand. This week, the B-Method from Crunch Gym shares one of its latest playlists.
Terri Walsh has been a fitness instructor for 30 years—but for a while, she also moonlighted as a DJ. "Any successful group exercise instructor must have an instinct for music," she says. So it's no surprise that her new class at Crunch Gym, the B-Method, relies on deep, soulful tunes that drive the class.
The B-Method uses yoga blocks for what Walsh calls active resistance training, the idea being that you're engaging your muscles as much as possible the whole time. For example, if you were doing a plank, rather than holding the position and focusing solely on keeping your core engaged, you would actively push against your yoga blocks with your hands to give your arm muscles some extra burn. "It provides an understanding of using movement, your own body weight, and exerting directed resistance as a practice that can be translated into any fitness program or discipline," says Walsh.
While she may have been a DJ in the past, Walsh prefers to be inspired by other DJs' mixes now. For many of her classes, Walsh will play tunes from DJ Shane. Here's a selection of songs that Walsh used in a recent class, chosen from one of his podcasts:
1. Smash TV, "When I" (Ruede Hagelstein Remix)
2. Hyenah, "The Wish" (Manoo Likes Apfelschorle Remix)
3. Luca Bear & Romano Alfieri, "Leave the Valley"
4. Nathan Barato, "Under Dirt" (Original)
5. Mihai Popoviciu, "Time" (Original Mix)
6. Christian Nielsen, "Back to Basics" (Original)
