Having a hectic week? Take some time to de-stress today—your sex life could depend on it. Daily stress and depression negatively impact women's sexual satisfaction and functioning—even more than men's, according to a recent study published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy.
Researchers at Mount Allison University in Canada analyzed results from an online survey of 155 women and 91 men in North America (with an average age of 26). Participants answered questions about daily stressors, anxiety, depression, and sexual function. Unfortunately for us ladies, the results showed that women's sexual functioning was more strongly related to daily stress and depression than men's.
Sounds a little unfair, right? But it turns out that even though our sexual functioning was impacted more than men's, daily stressors screwed with the sexual satisfaction of both genders. Essentially, being tightly wound leads to way fewer orgasms for everyone.
So how do day-to-day annoyances like money worries, work stress, and decision-making struggles have anything to do with your sex life? Researchers say that these stressors can cause your mind to drift elsewhere during the act, so you're less in the moment. It can also impact the way your body reacts when it's aroused, potentially making sex less comfortable and orgasms harder to come by. It makes sense—typically, you don't want to have sex when you're feeling anxious and overwhelmed. So the next time you're freaking out over every little thing, try to calm down with these 10 tension-busting tricks.
