The 10 Stages of Going to A New Fitness Class for the First Time (PICS)

The 10 Stages of Going to A New Fitness Class for the First Time (PICS)

Definitely not for the faint of heart.

Look. We've all been there: You hear of a new fitness class and get SUPER pumped about it... but then begin to have second (and third, and fourth...) thoughts. Here's a pretty reasonable rundown of what exactly goes through your head whenever you're checking out a new fitness class for the first time. Can you relate?

Stage 1:
A Groupon for a 10-pack of Barry's Bootcamp classes lands in your inbox. You've never been, so you decide to channel your inner Barney Stinson and buy the deal.

Stage 2: Two seconds later, you Yelp "Barry's Bootcamp" to see what you actually bought, and eeks! People say it's not just hard—it's, like, REALLY* hard. (*Like, really really. See a preview of Barry's Bootcamp here and see exactly what we're talking about.) Uh-oh…

Stage 3: You email, call and text your friends in an attempt to goad them into buying the 10-pack in solidarity, but they all basically laugh in your face.

Stage 4: You spend the next half an hour in existential crisis, wondering how you always manage to get yourself into these situations.

Stage 5: You decide that retail therapy is your only way out of the darkness, and you hit up Lululemon hard so you'll at least look hot in class. (May we recommend anything from this list of Fitness Award Winning Best Workout Gear?)

Stage 6: Still on the retail therapy high, you triumphantly log on to the Barry's Bootcamp website and actually register for one of the classes you paid for.

Stage 7: On the day of class, you are more nervous and jittery than you are before a first date. You somehow manage to convince yourself that everything will be okay.

Stage 8: You get to class, and it turns out, everything is not okay. You are totally lost.

Stage 9: Back at home, you relay the horror to your closest friends, and you feel a little bit better.

Stage 10: But then you remember that you still have NINE MORE CLASSES TO GO…
