Good luck finding cigarettes in your local CVS.
The famous pharmacy just announced that it's putting a stop to the sale of tobacco products in all 7,600 locations by October 1, 2014--becoming the first national apothecary chain to do so.
Even more: CVS plans to replace tobacco products with a smoking cessation program--pledging to help users shake the habit.
Today, about 18 percent of Americans still light up--about 42 million people. And while that number is down--before the Surgeon General's warning 50 years ago, around 42 percent of people smoked!--it's still too high. And selling cigarettes in a pharmacy? That's paradoxical, an article supporting the decision in the Journal of the American Medical Association stated this morning.
Kudos, CVS.
