Need a new wingman? Hit the pet store: Owning a dog makes you more attractive to the fairer sex, says new Israeli research.
After reading descriptions of different men, women preferred males with pups when selecting their ideal partner for the long run. But, there's a twist. Dogs only increased the chances in guys that gave off a bad boy vibe, that is--socially dominant, competitive, and brave.
Women want the best of both worlds: someone who is buff and dangerous, but sincere and a good provider, says study author Daniel Kruger, Ph.D. In real life, there are always tradeoffs in these characteristics, but having a dog markets a man as being caring and responsible, he notes.
Show those traits--whether or not you have a pup--by expressing interest in her as a person, as opposed to making generic statements, says Emily Morse, dating expert and host of the Sex with Emily radio show. If you're waiting in line for coffee, comment on your caffeine addiction and ask her if she has a similar vice. Or, if you're unfamiliar with the drink she ordered, ask her about it. You'll come off as genuinely interested and open, as opposed to overbearing or pushy, Morse notes.
