There's a time and place for most everything. But when it comes to your workout, there are certain things that simply don't belong--like the jeans our model is sporting during a workout in our October 1993 story "Power Pushups."
Take a look. (And no, he's not Charlie Sheen. We saw the resemblance, too.) Call it a product of the times, but jeans were used for pretty much anything in the '80s and '90s. While the workout itself is something we still stand behind (our pushup workout challenge still rings true today), we've--thankfully--moved on to more functional, yet still fashionable, workout clothes.
Twenty years later, our style team has new suggestions for dressing your best while training: high-tech fabrics that wick sweat away, warm-up pants, non-chafing shirts, shoes that sup port, and bags that vent.
And don't forget color: If you're inside, wear darker colors to the gym--they don't show sweat as quickly as white or gray, says Men's Health fashion editor Sandra Nygaard. Outside, stick to lighter shades, since darker ones tend to absorb heat.
Our 1993 throwback nailed that bit of advice.
