You may know him as the Philadelphia Eagles' wide receiver but around the halls of Men's Health, Brad Smith is on Team Style.
When we joined forces with Brad last year, he said he wanted to learn about fashion and magazines. So, when he's not in season, he's interning with us. The NFL star covered New York Fashion Week, has written for MensHealth.com and interviewed his friends on the ESPYS red carpet.
Today, the 30-year-old will make news when he announces a competition for emerging designers, giving them a chance to create a red carpet look for him. He says he's open to anything from a three-piece suit to something less formal, as long as it's red-carpet appropriate. "I'd tell the participants to keep it simple," he says. "I like clean, classic lines, with a bit of an edge." Designers can submit sketches between Jan. 2-23, 2014, at designforbradsmith.com. And designers take note: there are a few things the 6'2" athlete says he doesn't want see, including wild color, fur or ascots.
The former Missouri Tiger and a panel of judges will select the winning design, which will be produced by a production firm and then worn by Brad during New York Fashion Week in February 2014. The winner will receive a prize package valued at $2,500, including cash and an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City, where they'll accompany Brad to a runway show and a VIP party he'll host at The Strand Hotel. Check out the video below for Brad's official announcement.
