Drowsy driving can be deadly. Here's how to stay awake--and alive
These tips come from Anne G. Wheaton, Ph.D., who has studied drowsy driving for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Heed Signs
Notice yawning, fast blinking, not remembering the past few miles, missing an exit, drifting from your lane, or hitting a rumble strip.
Pull Over
See any of those signs? Don't just crank up the music or crack a window and power on—these tricks don't work. Take a break.
Recharge
Park in a safe spot, lock your car, set your phone alarm, and nap. Or stop for coffee and walk around for a bit.
