Don’t be a dope—grab a rope. Battling ropes can help you pump out more on the floor, says a new Canadian study.
Researchers found that just 4 weeks of battling-rope training boosted pushup performance by 24 percent.
“Rope workouts can really improve lactic acid tolerance in your upper body,” says BJ Gaddour, C.S.C.S., a Men’s Health training advisor. “That allows you to do more reps of upper-body moves.”
To make your own battling ropes, wrap the ends of a 50-foot-long, 1.5-inch-diameter rope with electrical tape. Make “rope waves” up and down and side to side as hard as you can for 30 seconds, and then rest for 60 seconds. Do that 10 times.
