Can’t tell if the girl you met online wants to see you again? Her profile may predict whether or not she’s in it for the long haul, suggests new research from the University of Texas.
Single women recorded profile videos for a dating site, then filled out questionnaires about their relationship goals. The surprising results: The more a woman spoke about herself in her video—her personality, or what she likes to do for fun—the more focused she was on a fling. Meanwhile, a woman looking for long-term romance was more likely to describe the traits of her perfect match.
Why? It’s possible that ladies looking for serious commitment are more selective, and so focus on partner qualities like looks, personality, or career prospects, the research suggests. But women looking for a little fun focus on advertising themselves, the study shows.
So now that you know what to look for on her page, get to work on your own. Your sense of humor, skills, and even the color of your shirt are all key ingredients when it comes to cooking up the perfect online dating profile.
