It’s a good bet that the player who takes home the award in tonight’s game—catch it at 8 ET on FOX—will at least be rocking some stubble with trophy in hand.
One potential reason: “Ball players are very superstitious,” says former New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada. “If I got three or four hits in a row, I would leave [my beard]. I would not shave or cut it until something happens.”
